When photography became a serious hobby for me, this was my dream 35mm camera. I didn't get this model, but I bought the Mamiya/Sekor 500TL. The 500TL was my first 35mm camera. Later in life I started camera collecting and I was able to find this camera. What made this camera so interesting and was a selling point was the through-the-lens spot meter. The camera had two meters inside - an average reflecting type meter and a narrow angle spot meter. The number 1000 stood for the high 1/1000 sec shutter speed it had. I photographed this camera with a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-f/5.6 zoom lens. I still have this camera. It is pictured here with a 50mm f/2 Mamiya/Sekor lens.
Photography has been my life. I was always curious about what went on inside the camera and in the darkroom. Photography was something mysterious--a little bit of magic plus a little bit of science. It was alchemy. I ventured forth to turn silver halide crystals into gold. Like all photographers I started out as a hobbyist. From home darkrooms to industrial photo labs and in various studios and on-location as a commercial photographer. I have assisted many professional photographers, worked in various labs and studios.
