I went up to Grand Portage State Park in northern Minnesota to photograph the High Falls which is the largest falls in the state. My camera was a Nikon D90 with a Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-f/4.5 zoom lens set at 10mm. To capture the constant flow of the waterfall I used a 10 stop neutral density filter to slow down the exposure. My exposure was 8 seconds at f/11 at ISO 100. In Photoshop I cropped the image to a square.
Photography has been my life. I was always curious about what went on inside the camera and in the darkroom. Photography was something mysterious--a little bit of magic plus a little bit of science. It was alchemy. I ventured forth to turn silver halide crystals into gold. Like all photographers I started out as a hobbyist. From home darkrooms to industrial photo labs and in various studios and on-location as a commercial photographer. I have assisted many professional photographers, worked in various labs and studios.
