I loaded a high contrast Kodalith negative into Photoshop and with layer masks and blending modes I added the blue color to the glass. I wanted blue because I am doing a whole series from this Kodalith negative showing the three colors of the RGB color space. The original negative was photographed with a 4x5" Calumet 22" bellows camera with a Caltar 215mm f/4.8 lens. The film was Kodak 4x5" Kodalith Ortho type 3 graphic arts film which was normally not used in cameras unless you needed to drop out a background like in Photoshop layer masks used today. The ISO of the film was very slow at 8 under my tungsten lights.
Photography has been my life. I was always curious about what went on inside the camera and in the darkroom. Photography was something mysterious--a little bit of magic plus a little bit of science. It was alchemy. I ventured forth to turn silver halide crystals into gold. Like all photographers I started out as a hobbyist. From home darkrooms to industrial photo labs and in various studios and on-location as a commercial photographer. I have assisted many professional photographers, worked in various labs and studios.
